Recount Writing

We were able to write about something we had been to or involved in. I wrote about going to a Matariki Festival.

OMG it was so cool. On the weekend my dad took my sister and I to the matariki Festival at Oromahoe Primary School. It was really cool.

Excitedly, we jumped in our friend’s racy Holden car and we quickly zoomed toward Oromahoe. We jumped out of the car and walked into the school. There was a track full of little lights winking at us. There were four fairy houses and there were these very cool big Chinese lanterns. Some people were covered in glow in the dark paint and had glow sticks on their neck, arms and legs. They were playing music.

First we looked around to see what there was to do. We saw some painted, glass jar lanterns that had been customised with a handle for us to hold.  So we got one each; one for me and one for my sister.  After we got our lanterns, we had another look around and decided to go for a walk along the lantern lit trail.  It was really cool.  Rumble, rumble, rumble our tummies went with hunger.  Dad bought pizza for us. My sister and I didn’t like the pizza so we got a sausage sizzle instead. Yum, I had tomato sauce, mustard and onions. My sister had sausage in bread. It was getting late so we went home.

We have included some obstacles too.  The goal is to be able to have someone follow our codes to navigate our life-cycle by getting from stage 1 to stage 5 and avoiding the obstacles.  Here are some examples of our coded life-cycle

my Speech

My speech topic is pollution I chose this topic because pollution needs to stop.

When I presented my speech I felt confident. What did I do well was I had a good topic. What I could have done better was eye contact.

Pollution

Why is pollution bad for the world?

Have you ever wondered about pollution and how it can affect the world? Pollution is bad because it is affecting the animals and the environment. Pollution can be caused by rubbish lying around because people throw their rubbish on the ground, by emissions from cars and factories.  I believe that pollution is bad for the world. Here are my 3 reasons why.

Firstly, pollution kills animals in the ocean. Imagine what the world would be like without sea animals, like turtles, fish and dolphins?  I believe when the plastic goes in the ocean the turtles think the plastic bags are jellyfish and they eat them.  When the wind blows the plastic goes in the ocean and the animals are eating the plastic and dying.

Secondly, pollution contributes to melting ice.  Emissions such as car exhaust and factory smoke are melting the ice and it is killing the polar bears. Can you imagine the ice world without polar bears?

Finally, pollution is bad because the factory smoke is damaging our lungs and if you breathe in too much factory smoke your lungs might stop breathing and you could die.

I think pollution is bad because it is affecting the planet earth. Animals are dying, ice is melting. Planet earth would be horrible with too much pollution.
